The Ceremony of the Fire Dance

Shortly after Emahós awakening in the presence of His Holiness Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche people approached him and invited him to Europe and teach. During a seminar he led in Glasgow, Scotland, a unique ceremony emerged – later known as the Fire Dance. He was taught the fire dance for 7 years in his dreams. He said it was a gift to Europe, because of the gift he received from H.H. Dilgo Khyentse.

The fire dance does not exist in any traditional indigenous lineage and yet it reflected his shamanic roots and his connection to the spirit. There were loud drums in a heartbeat rhythm and didgeridoos, people dancing and breathing deeply. At the center stood a mesa (altar) with two candles with several wicks. During the dance, Emahó would take each participant to the altar, place his hands in the flames and transmit the fire to the person.

He did not burn. Breaking the laws of physics this way he showed that there is more to life than what we can see with our eyes.

“Fire is closest to the spirit.”

Emahó often said that in the dance, he was like a maid, a cleaner.

„All injuries and disappointments are like grains of sand … what I do is I remove the grains of sand.“

For those who took part, its impact was profound: for some, it felt like coming home; for others, like a baptism of fire – a direct encounter with the vast realities beyond the social foreground of life.

Emahó often expressed the hope that, after he left this world, the fire dance would /will continue.

„This fire dance is your dance. It is a gift to Europe.“
